INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONES

The Special Economic Zone Authority, Kenya (SEZA) is a government agency responsible for the establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs). SEZA promotes and facilitates international and local investors’ access to the Zones by creating an enabling environment for investment . The Kenyan Government has set up public SEZs that include 3,000 acres in Dongo Kundu and 1000 acres in Naivasha where investors can acquire long-term leases. In this regard, please find attached a request for expression of Interest in Investing in Dongo Kundu (Mombasa) and/or Naivasha Special Economic Zones in Kenya….seza

1. 1. Agriculture

Coffee-value added and specialty; Tea-value added and specialty; Horticulture (Cut Flowers, Fruits (mangoes, avocadoes, passion fruit); Nuts- Macadamia and Cashew Nuts; Vegetables (Cabbages, carrots, assorted vegetables, French beans and snow peas; Herbs: (rosemary, dill, marjoram, basil, mint, parsley, coriander, curry leaves & celery and Spices (chilies thin, long, bullet & birds eye);  and Pulses dry beans, kidney beans, white pea beans, green grams, cow peas, lentils and pigeon peas); Khat-Miraa; Sisal fibre and sisal fibre products; Pyrethrum Extract; and, Gum Arabic.

2. Manufacturing

Food Beverages and Tobacco; Textile and Apparels; Leather and Footwear; Metal and Allied; Chemical and Allied Industries; Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment; Plastics; Light Engineering; Furniture; and Motor vehicles, Parts and Accessories.

3. Tourism

Hotels and Restaurants; Travel Agencies and Tour Operators’ services; and Tourist Guide services.

4. Blue Economy

The fish and fisheries products sourced from the vast marine and inland water resources that the country is endowed with.

5. Livestock Sector

Comprises: the dairy; beef; sheep and goats meat (muttons and chevons); piggery; camels for meat and dairy; the poultry industry and apiculture. Other emerging non-conventional livestock sub-sectors with export interests include donkey and rabbit production..

6. Oil and Gas (Petroleum)

Upstream (exploration and production), Mid-stream (storage, refining, transportation, transformation processing into petrochemicals, fertilisers, textile and pharmaceuticals) and Downstream (supply and distribution).

7. Mining Industry

the immediate target for mineral export development and promotion include: soda ash, fluorspar, titanium, gold, coal, manganese, iron ore, gypsum, diatomite, chromite, limestone, and silica sand.

8. Business, Financial & Professional Services Sector

all insurance and insurance-related services, and all banking and other financial services (excluding insurance). Computer and Related Services, Research and Development Services, Real Estate Services, Rental/ Leasing Services without Operators, and other Business Services.

Kenya High Commission, Kampala

The Kenya High Commission in Kampala was established in 1981 as a military liaison office to strengthen the historic relations between Kenya and Uganda with the first High Commissioner, reporting on 2nd March, 1981.

Since then, the two countries have grown to be each other’s key trading partner and play a key role in regional integration matters
